The Story behind the Silver
Rooted in Earth
You could say a love for stones is written directly into my DNA. Long before I ever picked up a torch, my Great-grandfather, Nathan, was a dedicated rockhound. He spent his life collecting beautiful specimens from the earth, though he never sold a single one. Instead, he displayed his treasures proudly across his front yard for the world to see. A silent testament to the raw, unpolished beauty of nature.
That appreciation for the earth took a wearable form when my Mema, Elizabeth, introduced me to the timeless combination of silver and turquoise. The moment I saw those vibrant blues set against brilliant silver; a lifelong infatuation was born. In fact, one of my prized possessions is a vintage Navajo squash blossom she gave me a couple years before she passed away.
Finding the Spark
For eleven wonderful years, my primary title was "stay-at-home parent". I poured everything into raising my family, but as the years went on, my creative mind kept looking for an outlet. Ive always been someone who needs to work with my hands; I just needed to find the right medium.
The turning point came on a simple date night with my Husband, Brian, at a local studio called, Torch & Kiln. The second I felt the heat of the flame and saw the metal shift under my hands; I was absolutely hooked. Silversmithing wasn't just a hobby, it was the perfect marriage of my love for stones, my need to create, and the tactile joy of making something from scratch.
Made to Outlast
Today, every piece that comes out of Ash and Stone Silverworks is a labor of genuine passion. I am constantly pushing myself to learn, expand, and do better with every single tumble and polish. Yet, I make it a point to stand back and feel proud of every finished piece that leaves my bench. There is a unique magic to this craft. Every week, I get to create beautiful, tangible objects for people I have never met, sending a little piece of my story out into the world. Metals and stones have a way of outlasting us all. Knowing that a piece of my heart and handiwork will be floating around out there, being worn and loved long after I am gone? Well, I think that's pretty cool!
